In 1989, we chartered under AFGE. I'm currently vice-president of the local. We've been very active on the national level with AFGE.

I was on the national negotiating team that put together the AFGE/DVA national master agreement (which is currently the best, most comprehensive federal sector labor master agreement). We try to stay connected with our legislators. NEVER underestimate the impact of a phone call to your Congressman's office! We also stay in touch with national labor organizations and have worked closely with the person who's second-in-command of the national AFL-CIO: current Executive Vice President of AFL-CIO, Linda Chavez-Thompson (she's from San Antonio and is the highest ranking female officer of the AFL-CIO ever).

When I retire, I plan to stay active in union organizing.
